County Releases Files; Footage To Go Public

Posted in Area 3 on May 18th, 2009 by admin

crimescene1In cooperation with Allegheny County Police, the footage of the incident that occurred at the manor a few short years ago is set to be released to the public. After years of  litigation with the families of the deceased and county officials, the evidence collected was reluctantly released as of May 2009 and will be retired to a shelf in the county library in late summer 2009.

It seems like just yesterday but six years have passed since we suffered the tragic loss. The staff of Hundred Acres Manor sends our most sincere sympathy to the families of the loved ones left behind. We do not intend on using this video as a promotional tool, rather to tell the true story of the manor grounds and the history that the property holds. We have made a concerted effort to avoid any footage that may be too painful for the families of the fallen and have worked hand in hand with Mogul Mind studios and the records department of Allegheny County to professionally edit the footage captured by the students.

The footage to be released depicts a group of Pittsburgh University students attending our haunted attraction for aham-paper private tour just hours before operation on the eve of October 2, 2004. We agreed to staff our haunt so that the students would have the full experience and be able to take their time walking through our event. The soul purpose of their visit was to collect field data to report on Pittsburgh’s newest haunted house and feature the story in an October issue of the Pitt campus newspaper. The intent; a few scares in good fun and a peek behind the proverbial curtain. The result; an unspeakable crime that took such young and bright lives.

In an interview with County Officer William Davayo, case lead, he states “I love the haunted house and the charities you benefit and I enjoy talking with you guys and watching your event come to life each October, but you guys are sick! Releasing the footage of those kids will do nothing but bring painful memories”. The families of the victims have chosen to remain anonymous.

Absolve, we beseech Thee, O Lord,
the souls of Thy servants,
from every bond of sin,
that being raised in the glory of the resurrection,
he may be refreshed among the Saints and Elect.
Through Christ our Lord.

Donations can be made to the families of the deceased at the Hundred Acres Manor box office during our 2009 operating season. The families have requested that proceeds of our event are donated to two charities; the Homeless Children’s Education Fund and Animal Friends. Hundred Acres Manor haunted house has donated thousands of dollars to both charities since 2004 and will continue in loving memory of the souls that left us at such a young age.

Midwest Haunter’s Convention – Summer Slaughter

Posted in News from the Lord of the Manor on May 18th, 2009 by admin

mhclogoOn the eve of June 3, 2009, Hundred Acres Manor haunted house opened our dungeon doors to the Midwest Haunters Convention pre-con bus tour. The tour is a three day jaunt for  haunted houses owners, operators, designers, actors, and other folks that make your nightmares a reality. Attendees  from the furthest stretches of the globe came to tour our famed attraction for a social dinner and a few scares.

Hundred Acres Manor was not open to the general public (although a lucky few sneaked in – and an even luckier few got back out again!) so that the haunters could take their time looking at the way that the haunt was laid out and the unique approach we take while creating our event. For this event, we staffed our haunt to the brim with nearly 160 ghouls and scares.

Comments heard when they exited were very positive. Haunters loved the detail in the haunt and, in particular, how long it took to go through. The maze was very popular, as were some of the other unusual things that you won’t find in any other haunt – but we can’t tell you what they are. Those are trade secrets and we’re going to terrify you with them in September. A few of the haunters told us that it was by far the best haunted house that they had seen.

Ethan Turon, Brandon Kelm, and Ted Sobek and the rest of the haunt staff worked tirelessly starting in January to Read more »
